Project Runway Contestants

It isn't only the winners of Project Runway who stay in the public eye long after the season has ended. Some designers from the show build up a popularity that stays with them beyond the show's airing. Since the contestants are all clothing designers, appearing on Project Runway gets them exposure they may not have otherwise received. For this reason, contestants do not necessarily have to win the entire competition in order to take their careers to the next level.

Of course, winning the competition does help promote the designer greatly and give him or her a great deal of opportunities.

Who Won Project Runway Each Season

As Project Runway continues to present season after season to delighted viewers, the list of winners grows longer and longer. Here is a glimpse at the designers who won each season of Project Runway.

Season One

Who won Project Runway in the very first season? Jay McCarroll was the winning fashion designer from this season. His flamboyant personality made him a fan favorite and he made a controversial decision when he turned down a portion of his prize.

Season Two

The second season winner of Project Runway was Chloe Dao. Although she was known by fans as sometimes appearing anxious and stressed out during the episodes she still managed to deliver innovative and stunning clothes during her time as a contestant.

Season Three

Jeffrey Sebilia was the season three winner of Project Runway. His clothing style was unconventional and his personal style included a neck tattoo and clothing that rivaled any rock star. His win was controversial based on some questions as to whether he indeed did all the work he claimed to have done.

Season Four

The winner of the fourth season was Christian Siriano, a self-assured designer who was considered by many of the other contestants too young to be a serious designer. Christian had a very colorful attitude and often peppered his interviews with phrases that have since become mainstream slang, such as saying that someone looks "fierce" or "a hot mess."

Model Winners

The competition also includes the models featured on the show, who win a magazine spread if they are partnered with the winning designer.

Here is a list of the models who were paired with the winning designers:

  • Julia Beynon was the winning model for season one.
  • Grace Kelsey was the winning model for season two.
  • Marilinda Rivera was the winning model for season three.
  • Lisa Nargi was the winning model for season four.

Future Winners

Season five has three designers heading to Bryant Park. Kenley is known for her fifties-inspired design and her abrasive attitude. Korto has an African influence in her designs. Leanne is best known for her ability to artistically pleat clothing.

Although a sixth season is in the works, the show will no longer air on Bravo. Instead, this reality show is scheduled to move to Lifetime.

Viewer's Favorite

This show sometimes features an opportunity for viewers to speak out and vote for their favorite designers. Although the winning designer is not always the fan favorite, some seasons feature a cash prize for the designer voted as the favorite among loyal viewers. Viewers can vote by phone, online, or texting.

Some designers on the show feel that winning the viewer's choice award is very important because it shows that their designers are appealing to the general public, which is a very important thing for any designer who wants to be successful. The official judges on the show have no say in who the fan favorite is because it is decided entirely by the viewers.
