Who Did the Bachelor Pick
From LoveToKnow Reality-TV
Every season of this ABC reality show ends with the same question: Who did the Bachelor pick? When it comes down to a choice between two women, the bachelors often surprise us with their final decisions.
How The Bachelor Works
The Bachelor is one of the oldest dating reality TV shows. In each season, one bachelor is brought in and introduced to a number of single ladies who all want to have a relationship with him. The women live together, and the Bachelor spends time with them on group and individual dates.
At the end of each episode, one or more bachelorettes are eliminated from the show during the Rose Ceremony. Red roses are handed to the women the Bachelor wants to keep, while the others are sent home. As the season comes to a close, there are only two women left, and only one will be chosen by the Bachelor. Sometimes this even ends in a marriage proposal.
Who Did the Bachelor Pick, Season One
The very first Bachelor was Alex Michel. After narrowing down his group of interested bachelorettes to Trista Rehn and Amanda Marsh, he chose Amanda in the finale. Alex and Amanda continued to date for several months, but broke up after rumors began swirling that Alex was still dating Trista. Trista went on to become the first Bachelorette with her own series, and married Ryan Sutter, the man she chose at the end of her show.
Season Two
The second Bachelor was Aaron Buerge. His final two remaining bachelorettes were Helene Eksterowicz and Brooke Smith. Who did the Bachelor pick? Aaron chose Helene, and proposed to her during the finale. The pair broke up less than a year later, and both said some highly uncomplimentary things about the other in the press.
Season Three
Andrew Firestone was the third Bachelor, and his final two ladies were Jennifer Schefft and Kristen Buschbacher. Andrew proposed to Jen, and she accepted. The pair lived together before their relationship fell apart, but they both claim that they're still friends. Jen went on to be one of the Bachelorettes with her own series, and Andrew is now married to model Ivana Bozilovic.
Season Four
Bob Guiney was Bachelor number four. He had been one of Trista Rehn's suitors in her Bachelorette series, and fans loved him. In the end, his choice was between Kelly Jo Kuharski and Estella Gardinier. Bob chose Estella but did not propose. Their relationship ended shortly after the finale aired, and Bob is now married to actress Rebecca Budig.
Season Five
Professional football player Jesse Palmer was the fifth Bachelor, and he ended up having to choose between Jessica Bowlin and Tara Huckeby. Jesse chose Jessica, but did not propose to her. Their relationship, like most before them, failed after several months.
Season Six
Our sixth Bachelor was pro bass fisherman Byron Velvick. The last two remaining ladies in this season were Tanya Michel and Mary Delgado. Byron proposed to Mary in the final episode, and the pair are still engaged. Mary has been arrested twice for assaulting Byron, yet the couple remains together and continues to claim that they will be married.
Season Seven
Bachelor number seven was actor Charlie O'Connell. At the end of his season, Charlie couldn't decide between Sarah Brice and Krisily Kennedy, and asked for more time to make his final choice. In the end, he chose Sarah. The two broke up, but have since reunited and plan to marry.
Season Eight
ER doctor Travis Stork was the eighth Bachelor. This season was filmed on location in Paris, and Travis ended up choosing Sarah Stone. Sarah hailed from Nashville, as did Travis, which was ironic considering they met and fell in love overseas. Travis and Sarah broke up shortly after the series ended.
Season Nine
Season nine was filmed in Rome, with Prince Lorenzo Borghese as the Bachelor. Lorenzo ultimately chose Jennifer Wilson, but after their breakup a few months later, began dating his runner-up, Sadie Murray. This relationship didn't last either.
Season Ten
In season ten, the Bachelor was Andy Baldwin. His final two remaining ladies were Bevin Powers and Tessa Horst. Andy chose Tessa and proposed to her at the end of the season, though the engagement was called off soon after. Tessa and Andy continued to date for a while before the relationship ended.
Season Eleven
Brad Womack, a bar owner, was the eleventh Bachelor. Though his final two consisted of DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft, Brad made The Bachelor history by not choosing either of the women.
Season Twelve
Season twelve brought us Matt Grant as the Bachelor, and the show was filmed in London. Matt ended up with Chelsea Wanstrath and Shayne Lamas (daughter of actor Lorenzo Lamas) as the final two, and he chose Shayne. Matt proposed to Shayne in the finale, and the pair lived together until their breakup in 2008.
Season Thirteen
The thirteenth Bachelor is Jason Mesnick, a single dad. His final two are Molly Malaney and Melissa Rycroft.
