Tiffany New York Pollard
From LoveToKnow Reality-TV
Tiffany 'New York' Pollard is one of the breakout stars from the reality TV dating show Flavor of Love. Pollard was one of Flavor Flav's original suitors, and was so outrageous and memorable to viewers that she earned her own reality shows on VH1.
About Tiffany New York Pollard
Tiffany Pollard was born on January 26, 1982, in Uttica, New York. She has one older brother, Derek, and her mother Michele has been featured on most of Tiffany's reality TV show gigs, weighing in with her opinions on Tiffany's suitors.
Pollard became a breakout reality TV star after ruffling feathers on Flavor of Love. The show is also responsible for her nickname, "New York," which Flav assigned her during the show's premiere episode.
Flavor of Love
Tiffany New York Pollard was no shrinking violet on Flavor of Love. In fact, she gave herself her own nickname, HBIC, which stood for "head b--ch in charge." She ended up arguing and fighting with the other girls in almost every episode, but amazingly lasted until the final two on the show. In the end, Flav chose Nicole "Hoopz" Alexander.
In season two, viewers were led to believe that Flav regretted cutting New York loose. She was brought back once again as one of his suitors. She made it to the end this time as well, but was ultimately heartbroken for a second time when Flav chose Chandra "Deelishis" Davis over her.
I Love New York
VH1 banked on Pollard's appeal to viewers and gave her a new dating show in which she would be the star attraction. I Love New York premiered on January 8, 2007, and featured 20 single men hoping to win New York's affections. The show followed the same formula as Flavor of Love, right down to New York choosing nicknames for her suitors.
After twelve episodes, Pollard chose Patrick "Tango" Hunter as the winner, and the pair was actually engaged for six months. As with most reality dating shows, however, the couple didn't last; Tango announced their separation during the show's reunion special. New York was on her way to a sequel.
I Love New York 2 began in October of 2007 with another 20 hopeful young men competing. During the final episode, New York chose George "Tailor Made" Weisgerber, who proposed to her. She refused his initial proposal, but when the offer of marriage was presented again during the reunion special, she accepted.
New York Goes to Hollywood
For her next VH1 reality show, New York moved to Hollywood in pursuit of an acting career. In the sixth episode of New York Goes to Hollywood the relationship with Tailor Made crumbled and was announced as officially over. Pollard's relationship with her mother also became strained, ending with Michele being sent home.
Despite a few commercials and photo shoots, Pollard never did land a real acting job on her own in Hollywood despite the fact that viewers were led to believe that a third installment of I Love New York was being sidetracked in favor of a big leading role.
New York Goes to Work
Instead of reviving the dating show, the network decided to follow New York again as she searches for a job. New York Goes to Work premieres May 4, 2009. This series is a lot different, however. Each week viewers have the chance to decide which job Pollard will take from a list of three possible gigs. If she impresses her boss, she stands to earn a $10,000 bonus. If she quits or gets fired though, her bonus disappears.
Other TV Appearances
Tiffany Pollard has appeared on a handful of other television shows, some of them arranged by her manager during the New York Goes to Hollywood series. These include:
- Nip/Tuck (as herself)
- The Maury Povich Show
- The Tyra Banks Show
- Jimmy Kimmel Live
- Flavor of Love Girls: Charm School
The Future of New York
In the series finale of New York Goes to Hollywood, Pollard was presented with a choice: continue working towards becoming an actor and give up her reality TV stardom, or give up her dream of acting and stick with VH1. It seems that, at least for the time being, Pollard plans to keep doing what made her famous in the first place.
