The Bachelorette TV Show
From LoveToKnow Reality-TV
The Bachelorette TV show is a spin off of the wildly successful Bachelor TV series. This time, however, the women are in the driver’s seat and get wooed by a group of men.
About The Bachelorette TV Show
Much like The Bachelor, the woman whittles the group down to two men from whom she ultimately picks her supposed true love. The Bachelorette also has the distinction of producing the only marriage from the entire Bachelor franchise.
The idea for The Bachelorette arose after viewers of the first season of The Bachelor fell in love with runner-up Trista Rehn. Deciding to give Trista her own shot at love, they picked 25 suitors and let them all compete for Trista’s attention. In the end, she chose Ryan Sutter, who she became engaged to during the series finale.
Season One
Trista and Ryan’s relationship is the only relationship spawned by The Bachelor franchise that has stood the test of time. The two were married in a televised ceremony in December, 2003, which was 12 months after the first episode of The Bachelorette was aired. The pair have one child and another on the way.
Season Two
Season two of the series featured Meredith Phillips as the Bacherlorette. Phillips had appeared on the fourth season of The Bachelor but was ultimately passed over. On her show she chose Ian McKee. McKee proposed to her during the series finale, but the couple split soon after filming on the show wrapped.
Season Three
Jen Schefft was the Bachelorette on the show’s third season. Viewers had gotten to know Jen when she was on the third season of The Bachelor. She was ultimately picked by Bachelor Andrew Firestone and the two were engaged briefly. After they broke up she was picked to be the Bachelorette. She narrowed down her group of hopefuls to Jerry Ferris, but she shocked viewers when she rejected his proposal. She claimed the two lacked chemistry.
Season Four
The fourth season of show featured DeAnna Pappas as the Bachelorette. Her final pick was Jesse Csincsak and the two became engaged on the show. They picked a May 2009 wedding date, but in November 2008 the pair split. Jesse took to YouTube to post videos discussing the split. He claimed that Pappas told him she loved him but was not in love with him.
Elimination Ceremonies on The Bachelorette
Much like the original Bachelor TV series, the elimination ceremonies on The Bachelorette center around the distribution of roses. The Bachelorette presents each of her potential suitors with a single red rose to symbolize her desire to get to know them a little better. The bachelor who does not receive a rose is the person who is eliminated during that round. Aside from the first elimination ceremony, during which several contestants are sent home, there is typically only one bachelor eliminated each round.
The bachelors may at any time during the process opt to decline the rose and remove themselves from the competition.
One of the elimination ceremonies during the fourth cycle of show caused viewers (and late night comedians) much amusements when eliminated suitor Ron said, “Deanna didn’t reject me tonight. She just chose other men.” His comment has lived on in clip show history.
