Sunset Tan
From LoveToKnow Reality-TV
No one probably would have ever guessed that a reality show based on a tanning salon would be a success, but producers definitely found a hit in Sunset Tan.
About Sunset Tan the Salon
Sunset Tan - the salon, not the show - is actually a full service tanning salon offering clients the usual array of skin darkening services that any other run of the mill tanning salon offers. The owners, of course, think it's a little more than that, touting it as an "ultra modern sun spa" that offers "luxury tanning infused with sophisticated aesthetics" going further to say that the tanning salon "…allows clients to bask in the pleasures of the good life." Most people would argue that it's nothing more than a tanning salon, and due to the "sophisticated aesthetics," an overpriced one at that.
Sunset Tan Los Angeles
The show is based on the workings of the Los Angeles franchise. Here's a little bit of background about the owners and investors:
- Devin Haman – The co-founder of Sunset Tan, L.A. has a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He funded his tuition on a football scholarship. Haman worked in commercial real estate before embarking on his own business venture.
- Jeff Boz – Also a co-founder, attended USC but left in order to pursue his professional beach volleyball dreams. Boz also has a business background in real estate.
- Larry Rudolph – Better known for managing Britney Spears career, Rudolph is the Co-President of the L.A. store along with Jeff Boz.
- Investors
- Brooke Burke – Actress and model
- Jeff Maloof – Hotelier Maloof owns, among other properties, The Palms in Las Vegas.
- Dr. Garth Fisher – Plastic surgeon known around the reality television circuit. So when some of the customers get wrinkles from too much tanning, Dr. Fisher is there to make them look young again…genius.
Sunset Tan the Show
The show, which air on E!, features owners Devin Haman and Jeff Boz along with:
- Holly Huddleston – One half of the infamous "Olly Girls." Looking at her bio on the Sunset Tan website, this "Olly Girl" earns just a few likability points for quoting James Baldwin, whether or not she's read him is a different story all together.
- Molly Shea – The other half of what makes up the "Olly Girls," Molly Shea claims she loves to watch football and one of her favorite television shows is Tom and Jerry.
- Janelle Perry – She used to work at the L.A. salon, but is now the manager at the salon inside the Palms Place in Las Vegas. Perry is still a regular on the show.
- Jenae Alt – Newcomer Jenae is the only brunette currently on the show. Alt works in the "mobile division" (their words) of the salon and airbrushes tans on celebrity clients at a location of their choosing.
- Keely Williams – Manages and runs the West L.A. salon. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Southern Mississippi but has pursued a career in entertainment, landing small stints on shows like Desperate Housewives and CSI.
- Ana Migdal – Also new to the salon, Ana was born in Poland and move to L.A. when she was two years old.
- Erin Tietsort – Shortly after small town girl Erin moved to L.A., she became a part of the Sunset Tan family.
The Boy
Nick deserves a mention to, even though he is the only boy to work at the salon who isn't a co-owner or founder.
- Nick D'Anna – To be fair, he's a brunette too, so in truth Jenae isn't the only one. Nick kept pursuing a job at the salon before they finally relented and gave him one.
The Format
This show is no different from your typical reality show. It follows the employees at work and sometimes in their personal life and features all the usual fights, temper tantrums, hirings and firings - the Olly Girls were once fired for having a party at owner Jeff's house while he was out of town, but subsequently rehired. The show airs Sundays on E! at 10:30 eastern.
