Roloff Farms

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

Roloff Farms is where the Roloff family from the reality TV show on TLC called Little People Big World live and work. Matt and Amy Roloff are both little people, as is their son Zach. The show follows their lives as they prove that little people can do big things.

Where is Roloff Farms Located?

Roloff Farms is located just outside of Portland, Oregon, in a town called Helvetia. The farm is 36 acres, much of it consumed by play areas for the kids, with other portions designated for growing. Pumpkins are their specialty, and the farm has a very active business in the fall when pumpkins are in season and in high demand at Halloween.

Is the Roloff Farm Open to the Public?

Roloff Farms is open to the public, but only during pumpkin season. For most of the month of October, the farm welcomes guests each Thursday to Sunday. There are plenty of things to do, see, and buy at Roloff Farms, including:

  • Picking out and purchasing pumpkins, squash, and gourds
  • Hayrides and guided tours of the farm
  • Large play areas for children filled with equipment to play on
  • Open grassy areas for corporate or large events
  • A gift shop with Roloff family branded items and supplies
  • A food area with snacks and kettle corn
  • A petting zoo
  • Children's hay maze
  • Pumpkin fun house
  • Face painting

Many of these activities, especially those for kids, are free.

The Roloff family themselves are usually in the middle of filming Little People Big World during pumpkin season, so they may not be on hand when visitors arrive. They are often home and working on the farm, however, so there's always a chance you'll run into them.

About the Roloff Family

The Roloff family consists of parents Matt and Amy, who have dwarfism, and their four children:

  • Zach
  • Jeremy
  • Molly
  • Jacob

Zach and Jeremy are fraternal twins. Zach also has dwarfism, while Jeremy, Molly, and Jacob do not. Matt and Amy Roloff are both 4'1" tall, while Zach is 4'4".

Matt Roloff uses crutches to get around, as well as a motorized cart on occasion. His particular type of dwarfism causes problems with the body's cartilage and bone development, and as a child he spent much of his time in the hospital undergoing surgery to help with his condition.

Amy Roloff is in good health, and was a stay-at-home mom for much of her children's lives. She recently took on a part-time job as a school teacher, and she helps with the farm upkeep and all of the things that need to be done around the house.

Zach has also suffered complications from his dwarfism, and has had a shunt surgically inserted into his skull due to excess fluid. He is an active teenager and an avid soccer player, though his soccer has had to be sidelined while he deals with problems resulting from this bowed legs.

About Little People, Big World

Little People Big World is the TLC reality show that follows the Roloff family as they deal with everyday life. The show focuses on how normal tasks and activities are different for those who have dwarfism, and how the family works together to accomplish their goals.

From working on the farm to traveling all over the world, the Roloff family plans each step carefully, with consideration for how they will work around restrictions that may occur due to their heights. It isn't easy for a family of six -with three little people and three of average height- to do many things that most people take for granted. The Roloffs understand their challenges, and meet them all head on.
