Popular Reality TV Wedding Shows
Some are unusual, and some are quite simple. These reality TV wedding shows are popular with viewers because of their originality. From concept to execution, they have fans hooked.
Bridezillas
Bridezillas follows brides-to-be throughout the planning stages of their weddings. These brides aren't your average women, however. Something about the stress of planning a wedding combined with lifelong dreams of the perfect nuptials turns these ladies into ravaging nightmares who scream, rant, and throw temper tantrums when things don't go their way.
My Big Redneck Wedding
My Big Redneck Wedding is a reality TV show that airs on CMT. The show is hosted by Tom Arnold and features some truly eccentric weddings. The couples and their families are usually some of the nicest people you'll ever see on television, but the weddings themselves feature everything from a dog as the best man to a canopy made from empty beer cans.
A Wedding Story
A Wedding Story is a half-hour program on the TLC network that documents weddings across the country. The stories are often sweet and simple, with people from all ethnicities, religions, and financial situations featured. The show has been airing since 1996 and has been a favorite of viewers for many years.
Rich Bride, Poor Bride
Rich Bride, Poor Bride focuses on the budgeting involved in planning a wedding. The show follows one couple in each episode, as they first figure out their budget and then go about the task of making their purchases and paying for services. At the end of the show the couple sits down and gets the actual tally of their wedding expenses, which is sometimes vastly different from the original budget.
Other Wedding Shows
There are many more wedding shows in the world of reality TV. Some are styled as documentaries while others attempt to be more flashy. These shows, both past and present, all take a different angle on the subject of weddings.
The Real Wedding Crashers
Based on the movie Wedding Crashers, this reality show featured a team of five improv comedy actors who crashed real weddings. The actors, who were in cahoots with the bride and groom, attempted to pull pranks on the wedding party and guests. Unfortunately the show wasn't as funny as people had hoped and only lasted for a few episodes on NBC.
Say Yes to the Dress
Say Yes to the Dress follows the employees of Kleinfeld Bridal, a dress shop in Manhattan. The show offers viewers a look at the inner workings of a bridal store and features personal stories of the brides to be who come in looking for their dream wedding gown.
Platinum Weddings
Platinum Weddings features stories of lavish and very expensive weddings complete with price lists of what items and services cost for such an event. From astonishing price tags for simple items to the extravagance of the brides and wedding planners, the show offers a contrast to what most viewers would consider a "normal" wedding budget.
Amazing Wedding Cakes
Amazing Wedding Cakes is a spin off show from Platinum Weddings, which focuses entirely on high-end wedding cakes.
Whose Wedding is it Anyway?
Whose Wedding is it Anyway takes a look at weddings from the wedding planner's perspective. Often, the bride's idea of a perfect wedding conflicts with the experience and knowledge of what the planner has in mind. This show follows a variety of wedding planners across the country as they spend countless hours preparing and executing wedding plans.
Rock the Reception
Rock the Reception is a quirky show led by choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon D'Umo from So You Think You Can Dance. Brides and grooms seek out the pair to teach them upbeat and unusual dance moves for their first dance as husband and wife, with the goal of shocking and impressing their guests.
Married Away
Married Away looks at destination weddings. The show follows couples as they plan a wedding far from home, and have to deal with all of the additional details that must be taken care of with such an event.
