Real Housewives of New York City

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

The Real Housewives of New York City on Bravo TV showcases the lives of women living in New York City and enjoying the social scene. The women on the show vary from those who are already prominent within the New York Society scene and those who are desperately attempting to climb their way up the social ladder.

New York

The Housewives

The term housewives is used quite loosely in this show because most of the women featured have busy careers or own their own business. While most of them certainly don't need the income from their jobs, all of the women are quite driven to succeed in all their endeavors.

Here are the women who are featured on this reality show:

Countess LuAnn De Lesseps

LuAnn married a Count and became a Countess. Viewers can watch her navigate through her day with the help of nannies and housekeepers who make sure she has everything under control. Before marrying the Count she was a model.

LuAnn makes no bones about her position within society. She chastised Bethenny for introducing her by her first name to a limo driver instead of using the proper title. She also does charity work because she says it's part of her duties as a Countess.

Bethenny Frankel

Bethenny is a celebrity chef and a prominent member of the New York social scene. She is not married, but goes back and forth with her boyfriend as to whether they should move in together, break up, or revamp the relationship entirely. Bethenny adds a blunt, sarcastic tone to conversations and meshes well with all the other housewives. She is the only single woman featured on this show and is the only one who does not have children.

A particularly awkward scene she was involved in included receiving a piece of racy lingerie as a gift from her father's business partner in front of her other friends.

Alex McCord

Alex is rarely seen without her husband by her side, much to the chagrin of the other housewives. She delights in buying clothes and talking about how brilliant her children are. She has not yet quite achieved the same social status as the other women on the show, but she is actively trying to sneak her way into the New York social scene.

Alex is most entertaining when featured shopping for clothes with her husband because this is when it becomes blatantly obvious that she wants very desperately to be seen as a socialite. Perhaps the most memorable scene was when Bethenny attended a party at her house and it was obvious that the house was in ill-repair.

Ramona Singer

Ramona runs a business and raises her daughter along with her husband. She has seemingly endless amounts of energy and appears to take delight in ruffling feathers of the people around her. Of all the women featured on the cast of Real Housewives of New York City, she appears to have the highest capacity for being abrasive in social situations.

She once went on an angry tirade against Alex's husband because he attended a dinner that Ramona assumed was only for the women. She also has a propensity toward embarrassing her daughter with the risqué clothing she sometimes wears.

Jill Zarin

Jill is billed as the true socialite of the group. She's a busy businesswoman and mother. Jill is photographed when attending events and pains herself when making fashion decisions. She sends her daughter to expensive spas and indulges in material items with little regard for the costs involved.

Her mother is also featured on this reality show occasionally, and this makes for interesting exchanges that are intriguing and entertaining.
