What is Project Runway

Hosted by Hiedi Klum, Project Runway pits rising fashion designers against each other to become the best. The contestants participate in unique challenges and must show patience, gratitude, and flair as they are thrown into the middle of the fashion industry in New York City.

Show Format

Each Project Runway episode follows the same format. The contestants must design new clothing in some unique way (like finding stuff in a grocery store to use, or using their own clothing) to be modeled on the runway. Some challenges require the contestants to design original clothing for someone famous. The designers get a budget and a time frame and are let loose. The models are dressed by the contestants, who also take care of each detail from the make-up to hair. The judges look on and prepare their scores and comments for the elimination portion of the show.

The final episode of each season requires the designers who are left to create an entire collection of 12 outfits for New York Fashion Week. The contestants have $8,000 and 3 months. The winner gets $100,000 to begin their own line and a feature in Elle.

Project Runway Episodes

  • Hulu has over 450 clips available for viewing. Most of these clips are stream from BravoTV's main website, but if you want consistent streaming, then use Hulu.
  • For full episodes, visit BravoTV's Official Project Runway Page. Currently, you are able to watch episodes from Season four and five. As of this writing, Season Five's finale has not been uploaded to the website yet.

Season and Episode Recaps

  • IMDB organizes the seasons well, allowing you to pick the episode of your choice. If you are new to Project Runway, then you should progress chronologically through the information. Clips from the first three seasons are available directly through IMDB, but once you reach Seasons Four or Five, you should go to the main site (above) to watch fill episodes.

  • An easier to navigate website with Project Runway episodes is TV Guide. These recaps contain some editorialized content, but the descriptions of the episodes contain just enough to give you an idea what happened.
  • At Television Without Pity you can read opinionated and lengthy recaps of the episodes. The reviewers give each episode a grade based on many factors, including how much drama occurred.

Behind the Scenes Clips

You can watch some exclusive clips not show on TV. Visit Project Runway to see some current behind the scene clips of season four and five and watch the after-show After the Sew to see what happened after the final runway showing.

If you are a diehard fan of Project Runway, then don't miss out on the dvd season collections. Season One through Four are available for purchase. Each season includes extended versions of some of the episodes and some of the seasons have outtakes and a "Where are they Now" portion.

The Best Online

For the frugal, your best bet to find Project Runway episodes is online. Some video websites have all the episodes available for viewing while others have the latest season. Viewing the full episodes of the earlier season might be a challenge: you might be resigned to watch clips from season one or two, like on IMDB. So if you're not frugal and want to increase your reality TV collection, then pick up Seasons One through Four. You should find them for around $20 online or even at places like Best Buy.
