New York Goes to Hollywood

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

New York Goes to Hollywood is a VH1 reality show that follows Flavor of Love break out star New York (real name Tiffany Pollard) as she tries to shrug off the reality show star image and make it as an actress in her own right. Viewers watch New York go on auditions, prep for TV and magazine appearances, and manage her relationship with her mother and I Love New York Season 2 winner, Tailor Made (real name George Weisgerber).

About New York

If there is one enduring star that has been spawned by VH1’s long list of reality shows, it has to be New York. Her brash attitude made her a fan favorite (or at least, the girl everyone loved to hate) on the first season of Flavor of Love, and when Flav rejected her for Hoopz in the season finale many people were shocked. During that show, New York was also involved in one of reality TV’s most infamous incidents when fellow contestant Pumkin spit in her face when New York mocked her as she was being kicked out of the house.

Viewers' heads spun again when a guest appearance on Flavor of Love 2 turned into New York coming back into the house as a competitor for Flav’s affections. She again made it to the final two and again was rejected by Flav (this time in favor of Deelishis). New York seemed truly hurt by the rejection and won a lot of fan sympathy.

This sympathy worked in New York’s favor when VH1 decided to give her her own dating reality show called I Love New York. The format for I Love New York was the same as Flavor of Love and Rock of Love. A group of suitors moved into a house with New York and competed for her affection.

At the end of the first season, New York rejected Chance in favor of Tango, who proposed to her on the last episode. After watching the show air, however, Tango saw unflattering remarks New York had made about his mother and he broke up with her on the reunion show.

After the break up, New York came back for a second season of the dating show and she ended up with Tailor Made, who proposed to her on the reunion show. After landing Tailor Made, New York began to focus her attention on her acting ambitions and VH1 producers decided to follow along.

Summary of New York Goes to Hollywood

VH1 set New York up in a house in Hollywood for one month and gave her to the chance to make her acting career work. With the help of a newly hired assistant, New York scored a Hollywood manager who set her up with acting classes and a series of auditions. Most episodes of the show centered around New York going out for one job opportunity or another, as well as her relationship with a man she met in her acting class.

A major theme of New York Goes to Hollywood was how her old life would interfere in her new life. Her mother - a staple on all of New York’s shows - caused a lot of conflict in Hollywood with her domineering personality and her demands to manage every aspect of New York’s career. She also had trouble with her fiancé Tailor Made. Her relationship with him had been on the rocks when she went to Hollywood, and in the middle of this series he paid her a visit and they broke up.

The ultimate test for New York came in the last episode, when she was offered a role in a movie. The caveat with the movie role was that she would have to commit to leaving the character of New York behind her. The producers of her show threw a wrench in the mix by giving her a chance to do I Love New York 3.

In the end, she opted for giving her acting career a try, but she promised viewers that she would return to New York and reality TV if the acting didn’t pay off.
