NYC Prep is a reality show on Bravo that chronicles the controversial clubbing, dining and dating habits of a group of privileged New York teenagers.

The Big Apple serves as the backdrop for NYC Prep.

NYC Prep debuted in June 2009 and promptly came under fire from claims that the show was "fake" and "contrived." The reality show focuses on the lives of six teenagers who claim to be key players in Manhattan's elite high school scene. However, many members of the New York City private school community have stated that the experiences depicted on the show are not similar to how life actually is for most Upper East Siders. Those experiences include shopping, partying and vacationing in luxurious locales. Since none of the schools that NYC Prep cast members attend allowed filming on school property, most of what is shown on the series centers on the teen’s extra-curricular activities.

The show also tries to illustrate that privilege has its price. While the teen cast members live in an enviable environment, various episodes illustrate that money doesn’t always buy happiness. The teens in the series try to come across as confident and carefree, but as the season progresses viewers get a better look into their stylish lives and see that it often lacks substance.

NYC Prep’s cast is made up of rich teens who face some of the same anxieties as other kids their age, despite being raised in the lap of luxury.

Camille is an overachiever who struggles to balance school, sports, shopping, shopping and more shopping. This popular high school junior is constantly on the lookout for Mr. Right, but no one seems to meet her impossibly high standards. The 17-year-old also loves to make a scene at social gatherings and thrives on drama.

Jessie has a habit of always getting what she wants. When something stands in the way of her obtaining what she desires it makes for good reality TV. The recent high school graduate is on course to enter in New York’s prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology where she plans to take her passion for fashion to new heights. During her last year in high school Jessie shows viewers why living a life of privilege has its ups and downs.

Kelli dreams of becoming a famous singer but her parents want her to finish high school before she pursues her career on stage. Ironically, Kelli’s parents are absent most of the time. The 17-year-old’s mom and dad live in the Hamptons while Kelli and her older brother live in the family’s Upper East Side apartment by themselves. As a result of living a relatively parent-free life, Kelli often spends her time partying and frequenting high-end restaurants.

PC is a sports-loving music aficionado who happens to be one of the most popular kids on the NYC Prep scene. PC’s parents are extremely wealthy and have multiple connections in the entertainment industry. Subsequently, PC grew up surrounded by rock stars, artists, and the city's elite. PC and Jessie are former flames who have a habit of hooking up with each other despite their decision to date others. PC admits to being bisexual in episode three.

Sebastian is NYC Prep’s resident player. He is constantly trying to squire the hottest girls either in the City or at his place in the Hamptons. The 16-year-old hair-flipping hottie has surfer good looks and is fluent in French. Sebastian's hobbies, aside from hooking up with as many girls as possible, are soccer, tennis and traveling to exotic locations with his film director father.

Fifteen-year-old Taylor is the only cast member who does not attend a private high school. However, thanks to her extracurricular activities, she is friends with many wealthy Upper East Side teens. Taylor attends a magnet public school in Tribeca where she is an active member of her school's gymnastics and roller hockey teams. The ambitious teen is also a member of a rigorous pre-professional dance group and enjoys dating and partying in her spare time.

During season one of NYC Prep viewers see how these rich teens live it up on a daily basis. Most of the episodes show the teens living the fabulous life during holiday jaunts to Florida and Mexico. The teens' time in the city is split between keeping up with their academics, partying at high end venues and trying to pad their college resumes by hosting charity events, such as the exclusive Operation Smile soiree Jessie tries to pull off. Other episodes chronicle the love lives of NYC Prep stars from PC’s blind date to the developing love triangle between Sebastian, Kelli and Taylor.

Season one of NYC Prep wraps up on August 25, 2009. As of July 2009, Bravo has not yet announced whether the reality TV show will be renewed for another season.
