Momma’s Boys
From LoveToKnow Reality-TV
Momma's Boys is an NBC reality TV show that puts a new spin on dating and relationship programs. While three bachelors all look for love among a group of beautiful single women, things get complicated when the boys' mothers arrive to provide wisdom and input.
Momma's Boys Overview
Momma's Boys has all of the trappings of your average reality dating show. There are single men who want to start a meaningful relationship, gorgeous women who aren't afraid to don a bikini, lavish dates and heartbreaking eliminations. The show was created, and is directed and produced by, Ryan Seacrest, the host of American Idol.
The first episode of Momma's Boys premiered on December 16, 2008. 32 single women arrived, hoping to hook up with one of the these three available men:
- Michael Sarysz: Age 25, a firefighter and E.M.T. paramedic from Plantation, Florida
- Robert (Robb) Kluge: Age 24, a commercial real estate salesman from New York, New York
- Jojo Bojanowski: Age 21, a college hockey player from Washington Township, Michigan
The mothers, who are there to provide advice and help choose women to spend one on one time with their sons, move into a house with the women while the guys get a bachelor pad all their own.
Challenges and Eliminations
For every hour-long episode, there is a challenge for the girls to compete in. The prize is an individual date with one of the men.
Eliminations can come at any time and are delivered via text message. If one or more of the men are interested in keeping a woman in the house, she stays. If none of the men express interest, then that woman is eliminated.
In some cases, one or more of the men wish to speak with one of the women further before making a decision. When this happens, the woman in question is called down to the pool for a conversation before the men decide whether to keep her or send her home.
The mothers are along for the ride to evaluate the women and try to give advice to their sons. They don't have the power to eliminate any of the girls, however. At times, the moms can choose which girl they want their son to have a private date with.
The Moms
The mothers are all very protective of their sons. Some of the moms still cook and clean for their sons and are very much a part of their boys' daily lives. The mothers in season one are:
- Lorraine Sarysz-Nichols (Michael's mother)
- Esther Kluge (Robert's mother)
- Khalood Bojanowski (Jojo's mother)
The breakout personality of the entire season was Khalood, due to her bigoted and biased comments towards the women as well as her controlling attitude towards her son. Khalood openly stated that no woman of color or mixed race could go near Jojo, and wanted a petite blond who was Catholic and could cook and clean for her son. This obviously caused tension within the group.
The Women
The women on the first season of Momma's Boys ranged from Penthouse Pets to bookish librarian types. Indeed, in the season finale, one of the finalists, Erica, had to admit to Michael and Lorraine that she was a Penthouse Pet of the Year. The news wasn't easy for Michael to swallow, and Erica was eliminated.
The three women who managed to snag one of the bachelors were:
- Amanda Myers, age 26, a medical student from Kansas City, Kansas, who was chosen by Michael
- Lauren Potter, age 28, a waitress from New York, New York, who was chosen by Robb
- Mindy Finney, age 22, a kindergarten teacher from Macon, Georgia, who was chosen by Jojo
Robb was the only man to agree with his mother and choose the same woman that she had been pushing for. The other two men went against their mother's wishes. In Jojo's case, he had to choose between Mindy and his mother.
The chosen women were then offered a three-day private vacation in Santa Monica where the show was filmed with their men.
