Megan Wants a Millionaire

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

VH1 reality show Megan Wants a Millionaire premiered on August 2, 2009. The show was to follow the tried and true VH1 dating show format, but the drama off screen outdid the onscreen antics when one of the contestants was accused in a real life murder case, causing VH1 to pull the show after three episodes.

Megan Wants a Millionaire Premise

Megan Wants a Millionaire featured VH1 reality show alum Megan Hauserman. Viewers first met Megan when she appeared on Rock of Love 2 and got to know her a little more when she appeared on Charm School and I Love Money. As a polarizing figure for viewers, she became one of the standouts on all of her shows.

Megan Wants a Millionaire was structured similarly to VH1’s Flavor of Love, I Love New York and Rock of Love franchises. Seventeen men were selected to compete for Megan’s attention. Each episode, the men completed a challenge to earn a date and some one-on-one time with Megan. Each episode ended with an elimination ceremony where one or more of the contestants was removed from the competition. When Megan eliminated a contestant, she cut up the giant credit card that had been given to each man and said the line, "Your credit has been declined."

The twist in this show was that all of the contestants had to prove that they had a net worth of over $1 million to be cast on the show. When contestants won dates, they were presented a "date menu" by Niles, Megan’s "butler." From the date menu, they could choose to upgrade the date that the show was providing for them, but the catch was that they had to spend their own money. They could also select gifts from the date menu to give to Megan during their dates. For instance, one date was dinner in the backyard, but the winner chose to upgrade the date at his own expense by taking Megan to dinner at a French restaurant in an Aston Martin automobile.

The house the contestants lived in featured a business center, and they were expected to keep up with their work while on the show.

Megan Wants a Millionaire Challenges

For the shows that actually made it to the air, the challenges were:

  • Present Megan with a gift and meet some of her friends.
  • Make or buy a Valentine’s Day gift for Megan.
  • Develop a business plan for a company inspired by Megan’s dog Lily.

VH1 pulled the show on August 19, 2009, and the remaining challenges, as well as the show outcome, was concealed.

Ryan Jenkins and Show Cancellation

On August 19, 2009, news broke that a contestant on Megan Wants a Millionaire, Ryan Jenkins, was wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of his wife, lingerie model Jasmine Fior. Fior was reported missing by Jenkins on August 15 and her body was later found in a trash can stuffed in a suitcase. She had apparently been strangled. Police were unable to located Jenkins in the wake of the discovery.

Megan Wants a Millionaire wrapped in March, 2009, and in an interview with TMZ, Megan stated that Jenkins married Fior two days after he finished taping. Jenkins was one of the contestants Megan frequently discussed being attracted to in her confessional interviews during the three episodes that aired, and the two had been on a solo date. VH1 cancelled the show immediately on hearing the news about Jenkins without providing any information about the show’s conclusion. According to TMZ, sources with knowledge of the show said that Jenkins made it to the finals but was ultimately not picked.

Further complicating matters for VH1 is that fact that Jenkins had also finished taping I Love Money 3. The same sources reported to TMZ that Jenkins was in fact the winner of that show, which was expected to being airing in fall 2009.

At the time of writing, VH1 has not commented on whether Megan Wants a Millionaire will air on a future date or if I Love Money 3 would air at all. All references to Megan Wants a Millionaire were removed from the VH1, save for this statement.
