MTV Made

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

MTV Made is an MTV reality TV program that is part self-help and part makeover show. Teenagers get help achieving their dreams, giving them the tools they need to accomplish something they've always wanted to do. Most of the time the show is successful in making these transformations happen.

Made prom queen

MTV Made Format

In every season of MTV Made, viewers are introduced to a number of teens who want to make a change in their lives or accomplish a goal. Each episode focuses on one of these teens who has undergone six weeks of intensive training, schooling and practice toward his or her goal.

The first few seasons featured only a handful of participants, but as the show has gained popularity with viewers seasons have been extended to include upwards of thirty teens.

In order for the participants to transform themselves, MTV brings in a team of professionals to coach them including some very famous faces.

In addition to the training and transformation, the show focuses on the personalities of those participating and their relationships with family and friends. Oftentimes the parents are over-protective of their children, causing some friction. Almost as often, the teens themselves think that they don't need to study or work hard to achieve their goals, making for interesting contrasts when they learn just how much work is involved.

Examples of Made Transformations

Like most reality TV shows, MTV Made depends on contrasts to make it interesting. Therefore, many of the transformations and goals are based on opposites. For example:

  • An overweight teenager is made into a prom queen.
  • A pampered and spoiled rich kid works hard to be made into a good soccer player.
  • A high school football player is made into a graceful figure skater.
  • A tomboy is made into a high fashion model.
  • A boy who has never been kissed is made into a ladies man.

Celebrity Coaches

Many of the episodes feature celebrities who are on hand to coach the teens in their chosen field. Some famous faces who have appeared on the show include:

  • Pro skateboarder Tony Hawk
  • Soap actress Bobbie Eakes
  • Musician Snoop Dog
  • Fashion designers Heatherette
  • Freestyle motocross rider Carey Hart
  • Rock band Panic at the Disco
  • Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz
  • Rapper The Game
  • Former pro football player Eddie George
