Kendra Wilkinson on E!

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

Fans of the original Girls Next Door will be pleased to know they can still find Kendra Wilkinson on E!. On Kendra, viewers get a look at Wilkinson’s life as she moves on from the mansion and tries to build a new world with her husband, NFL player Hank Baskett. The first season of Kendra Wilkinson on E! started in May 2009, and finished in July of that year.

Kendra Wilkinson on E!: From Hef to Hank

E! viewers know Kendra well from the hit show The Girls Next Door. Kendra, along with Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt, was one of Hugh Hefner’s live-in girlfriends. The show chronicled Kendra’s life living in the mansion and her relationship with Hef and the other girls.

Hugh Hefner first spotted Kendra by accident. Her photo happened to be sitting in a fax machine in the Playboy office. Taken with her, Hef said he wanted to meet her, and she was hired to be a "painted lady" at one of his mansion parties. After introducing himself to her, he asked her to be one of his girlfriends and soon after moved her into the mansion.

During the run on Girls Next Door, Kendra frequently seemed like the odd one out. She often didn't participate in the same activities as Bridget and Holly and there were occasional hints of dissention in the ranks, particularly between Holly and Kendra. However, for the most part, the girlfriends got along well, and Kendra became known to viewers for her distinctive laugh and her love of sports and hip hop.

As gossip starting surfacing that there was trouble in paradise at the mansion, Kendra was the first of the girlfriends to publicly split with Hef and openly have a new relationship. Rumor has it that Kendra's relationship with Philadelpia Eagles player Hank Baskett actually began while she was still in the mansion, but they went public with things shortly after Kendra moved out of the house.

The other original Girls Next Door soon ended their relationships with Hef. E! decided to continue on with that series with Hef’s new girlfriends taking over for Bridget, Kendra and Holly, but they didn’t want to deprive fans of a chance to keep up with their favorite Girls. Thus, Kendra was born.

Kendra: Storyline and Themes

The first season of Kendra focused on the many changes in her life: moving out of the mansion, getting engaged and then finding out she was pregnant. A large part of the show was about the planning of the wedding, the pregnancy announcement, and the rift that her pregnancy temporarily caused with her family because Kendra sprung the news on them at a surprise baby shower.

Former Girls castmates Holly and Bridget both made appearances on the show. The finale featured the wedding of Kendra and Hank Baskett. They married on the ground of the Playboy mansion and Kendra gave the second dance to Hef, who is also set to be the godfather of their baby. Bridget narrated the wedding episode of Kendra.

The Future of Kendra

The first season of Kendra was a big success for E! The debut episode was the highest ranking debut of any series the network has had, knocking the Anna Nicole Smith Show from the number one spot. The network has ordered a second season of the show, likely to be shown in late 2009 or early 2010 that will feature Kendra and Hank adjusting to married life and moving to Philadelphia for football season.
