Jon and Kate Gosselin

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

Jon and Kate Gosselin are the parents of twin girls and a set of sextuplets. They are the stars of the TLC reality TV show Jon and Kate Plus Eight and have found themselves in the spotlight because of their parenting styles, accusations of infidelity and a pending divorce.

Jon and Kate Gosselin the Early Years

Jon and Kate met at a picnic in 1997. Kate has said that she fell in love with Jon immediately. The couple married in 1999. They planned on having children, but ran into difficulties conceiving and eventually Kate was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, which can cause infertility.

Fertility treatments resulted in Kate becoming pregnant with her twin daughters, Mady and Cara, who were born on October 8, 2000. Opting once again to seek out fertility treatment, Kate became pregnant once again. This time, however, she delivered a set of healthy sextuplets on May 10, 2004. The sextuplets are made up of three girls and three boys, and their names are:

  • Alexis
  • Hannah
  • Aaden
  • Leah
  • Joel
  • Collin

The Gosselins on Television

Discovery Health Channel learned of the Gosselins and decided to film a documentary-style program about them called Surviving Sextuplets and Twins. The show was a success, and was followed up with Surviving Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later.

Jon and Kate Plus Eight was born out of these specials, and the show eventually moved to the TLC network. Viewers have become divided over the show, with some in awe of the juggling act Jon and Kate Gosselin must perform to keep their large family functioning, while others believe that the children shouldn't have cameras filming them constantly.

Jon and Kate Plus Eight

Jon and Kate Plus Eight documents the lives of the Gosselin family in good times and in bad. From moving into their dream home, to taking family vacations, to traveling for media appearances, to the more mundane things like dancing lessons or family meal time, there is little that the cameras don't catch.

The show is dotted with clips of Jon and/or Kate sitting on their couch, explaining how they felt as these things were happening.

Infidelity and Separation

Jon and Kate Plus Eight took a dramatic turn in May 2009, when Jon was accused of cheating on his wife. Multiple media reports carried photos of Jon and the mystery woman, who were seen exiting a bar and driving away together. Kate was also accused of infidelity with her bodyguard, but she has denied these rumors.

Season five of Jon and Kate Gosselin's reality show opened with both of them seemingly confused about their relationship and where they were headed. At the end of June, Kate filed divorce papers and an announcement was made on the show that the couple was separating.

TLC announced a hiatus for Jon and Kate Plus Eight, citing the turmoil and the effects it would all have on the children as the reason. The hiatus is short-lived, however, lasting just under two months.

Jon and Kate have stated that they are both invested in their kids and have come to an agreement whereby each parent will live in the house, with the children, for several days a week so the kids won't have to be shuffled back and forth between homes.

Jon Gosselin and Hailey Glassman

Jon Gosselin, who has his own apartment now in New York City, has been dating Hailey Glassman. Hailey is the daughter of the plastic surgeon who performed Kate's tummy tuck after the sextuplets were born. She is 22 years old, ten years younger than Jon.

The Future for Jon and Kate

While it seems certain that Jon and Kate have parted ways, they will have to continue to work together raising their children. They also have a contractual obligation to TLC to continue their series, at least for the time being.
