Why Work for Diddy?

Viewers may wonder why contestants would be willing to put themselves through such tedious challenges in order to work for Sean Combs. Although it's true that many people are willing to put their lives on hold in order to do a stint on a reality show for the fun of the process and the potential fame, the contestants on I Want to Work for Diddy are expected to tackle very demanding tasks with little reward. It isn't until the final contestant is chosen that the assistant is hired.

Why would someone go through so much just to land a job as someone's assistant? Not only is Sean Combs extremely well-known around the globe and routinely surrounded by some of the most glamorous people in every industry, but Diddy has a knack for taking people's careers to the next level. What starts out as an assistant position may easily evolve into running one of the many projects or companies owned by Sean Combs. He expects a lot from his assistants, but appears to reward them generously with promotions as well as giving them a truly exciting lifestyle to enjoy.

Show Format

The first episode of I Want to Work for Diddy introduces viewers to the potential contestants and involves an immediate dismissal of some of the participants. The remaining contestants are put through several tasks that are designed to test their stick-to-itiveness, resourcefulness, and ability to get things done.

The contestants don't actually get to meet Sean Combs face to face until a few episodes later.

Each episode includes a challenge that places teams working against other teams on tasks that are loosely based on corporate abilities. One episode had the teams navigating their way through the woods while another episode sent some contestants off to France at a moment's notice to search for a specific model for an ad campaign back in the States. In other words, there is never a dull moment on this show as the contestants are run ragged in their attempts to please their potential boss.

One contestant is eliminated every episode, although occasionally there will be no eliminations and once in a while more than one contestant is asked to leave. Although it is the contestants who nominate the first choice for elimination, the person up for elimination is then allowed to choose one person to accompany them to face the panel of judges and plead their case. The panel of judges is comprised of trusted friends and associates of Sean Combs, and it is this group of people who have the final say in who goes home each episode.

The final episode pits the final three competitors against each other in individual presentations. The pool of contestants is then whittled down to two, and these two contestants work together on a final project while Sean Combs decides who to actually hire as an assistant.

The winner of the first season of I Want to Work for Diddy was Suzanne Siegel, but the runner-up was also hired to work in another part of the company.

I Want to Work for Diddy Diddy-isms

One of the most fun aspects of this show are the brief cameos by Sean Combs when he extols his Diddy-isms to viewers. These are words of wisdom that he expects his employees to follow if they hope to be successful. Although most of these phrases seem egotistical, they have proven to work for Sean Combs as a means by which to be successful.

For example, if an employee complains about being tired, Diddy's response is, "What rhymes with tired?" In other words, if you're tired, you're fired.
