How to Apply for America’s Next Top Model – The Application Process

There are two ways to apply to be on America’s Next Top Model: by mail with an application and video or by attending an open casting call.

America’s Next Top Model Application

Whichever way you choose to apply, completing an extensive application is required. Although the specifics of the application differ from season to season, expect to answer over 70 questions and for the application to be about 15 pages in length. The application is designed to both collect your personal details and develop an idea of who you are as a person. The questions on the application include:

  • Name, address, date of birth
  • Social networking site profile pages and websites
  • Work history
  • Criminal background
  • Income
  • Relationship with parents and siblings
  • Education
  • Drinking/smoking/drug use
  • Relationship with roommates
  • Dietary habits
  • Romantic relationships and sexual orientation
  • Religion
  • Political beliefs

There are also a number of open ended questions asking you to describe yourself. The application requests a great deal of very personal information, and anything you say on your application may become fodder for an episode of the show.

Eligibility Requirements

With your application, you must also sign a waiver and sign off that you understand and agree to all of the eligibility requirements. Some of these requirements include:

  • You must be between 18 and 27 years old
  • Contest is open to females only
  • You must be at least 5 feet seven inches tall
  • If you make it the semi-final round of the audition process, you must be willing to travel to a location of the producer’s choosing at your own expense for interviews.
  • You must be willing to submit to a physical and psychological evaluation, including medical testing.
  • You have to be willing to devote two months to the show and to relocate to a city of the producer’s choosing.
  • You have to have a valid passport as they show may require you to travel out of the country.

The eligibility sheet also spells out some of the things that may happen during the show, so that you know what you are walking into. For instance, it says you will live in a house with a large group of strangers and that cameras will be around you nearly constantly. You must agree to adhere to the judges’ decisions. Your contact with family and friends may be limited or monitored, and your access to TV, radio, cell phones, iPods, newspapers and magazines may be restricted or denied. You have to agree to all of these stipulations before you can be eligible to compete on the show.

Videotape versus Open Calls

America’s Next Top Model holds open casting calls around the US for all of their seasons, so you have the option of traveling to one of these events to present your application in person. You will audition for the producers at this time.

If you can’t make it to a casting call, then you can submit your application by mail along with a videotape of yourself. There are a few rules for the video:

  • It can be no longer than 3 minutes in length – longer tapes will not be considered
  • It cannot contain any music
  • You must demonstrate your catwalking ability on the tape
  • You should also showcase your personality a little bit

When you mail your application, you have to mark it with a special code denoting your region of the country. Codes change from season to season. Check the CW website fore more information.

Note that anyone who makes it to the semi-final round of auditions must attend an in-person interview at a location determined by the production team, whether you originally submitted your application by mail or in person.

How to Apply for America’s Next Top Model: Final Steps
