You've seen them traverse the globe in the hunt for a cool million and now you’re wondering: How do I sign up for The Amazing Race?

Application Process

There are only two ways you can apply to become a contestant on the Emmy award-winning CBS reality TV show:

• Apply online. Applications are available at CBS.com. However, it's important to note that applications are not always available. While the website remains accessible year-round, there are times when the application page will include a note from producers saying that they are not currently looking for new applicants and asking that you to check back later.

• Open Casting. Each year open casting calls for Amazing Race contestants are held in various cities throughout the United States. Fortunately for people living in smaller cities, these open casting calls do not take place exclusively in major metropolitan areas. In years past, these events have been held in smaller cities such Green Bay, Wisconsin and Altoona, Iowa. You can get information about upcoming open casting calls by contacting your local CBS affiliate.

Application Procedures and Restrictions

• You must have a teammate in order to apply for the show. Unless noted on the application the show requires that you have some form of preexisting personal relationship with your teammate.

• Each individual must complete a separate application form. However, both teammates' applications must be submitted together, along with a joint three-minute videotape (anything over 3 minutes will automatically disqualify you) illustrating outstanding personality traits and offering insight into why each would be ideal for the race. The written applications and the videotape submission must be mailed together in a single package and will not be returned.

• All contestants must be 21 years or older to apply.

• All applicants must be United States citizens and current residents of the United States with valid passports.

• If you are currently running for any type of political office, you are not eligible to apply to the show. In addition, if you are chosen to appear on The Amazing Race you are ineligible to run for any type of political office until one year after the initial broadcast date of the last episode in which you appear.

• All applicants must be in good physical and mental health.

• If you are selected as a semi-finalist on the show, you and your teammate are responsible for paying your own transportation and lodging expenses to an interview location in the United States determined by show producers. If you qualify as a finalist, you will receive an all-expense paid trip to Los Angeles to meet with producers and complete another round of interviews.

How Do I Sign up for The Amazing Race: Application Timeline

Unlike some other reality TV shows the application timeline for The Amazing Race moves quickly. Within three weeks of the application deadline semi-finalists are notified and personal interviews are complete. Two weeks later the final cast is chosen and location scouting begins. Finally, within six weeks of the final scouting, contestants are flown to the starting point of the race and the show begins filming.

Whereas the production company pays for all travel that takes place on the show, your time on The Amazing Race will not be anything like an all-expense paid trip to a cushy foreign resort.
