Hammertime

A&E network’s Hammertime follows MC Hammer and his family as he attempts to relaunch his music career. Viewers get a glimpse into the lifestyle Hammer has endured since his career declined as well as the struggle he faces to get back to where he was. The first season show launched in summer of 2009.

The cast members, all part of the Hammer clan, are as follows:

Stephanie Burrell is Hammer’s wife of 23 years and mother of his six children. While Hammer is off in the studio recording, it falls to her to run the household and keep the kids on track and on schedule. She has also stood by her husband’s career choices and was his support system as he tried to come to terms with the decline of his fame.

Booby, as he is known to family and friends, is 13 years old during season one of Hammertime. He is a born performer. As a talented dancer, he performs with his father on stage regularly and is determined to make a living in the entertainment industry. Booby already has a diva attitude and frequently ends up on the wrong side of his parents.

Eleven year old Jeremiah is the opposite of Booby in terms of behavior and attitude. This shy son of Hammer struggles with his school work but is a talented poet and writer. He sometimes gets lost in the shuffle of the attention-seeking of his siblings.

Sarah is 16 years old and a singing powerhouse. She struggles to tap into her confidence, however, and frequently shies away from the spotlight her singing could earn her. Instead, she focuses on school and spends a great deal of time alone, reading. She idolizes her older sister and hopes to follow in her footsteps and attend college.

Four year old Sammy is the youngest member of the family and definitely the center of attention. He has a big personality for his age, and his mom and dad don’t shy away from indulging his whims.

A’Keiba is a TV and film production student at the University of Texas, so she is away from the family's California home most of the time. Her younger siblings look up to her, especially Stephanie. A dedicated vegetarian, her eating habits are a source of conflict within her family.

Jamaris is not officially a Burrell, but he might as well be. He has been living in the house since he was ten years old when his mother, Hammer’s sister, found out she had a brain tumor. Jamaris is a talented football player and the target of many college ball scouts.

Lyin' Marv, also sometimes called Cousin Marv, is Hammer's former roommate. Now working for Hammer and an honorary Burrell, he brings comic relief and dependable friendship to the Burrell clan.

Hammer himself, real name Stanley Burrell, is the central character on the show. After reaching superstardom status in the late 80's and early 90's thanks to his music, his dance moves and his parachute pants, a series of bad financial decisions and changing musical tastes led Hammer to lose it all. He has struggled for a long time with the loss of his fame and fortune but is now determined to get it all back for his family.
