Groomer Has It

Groomer Has It is a reality TV show on the Animal Planet network. The show is a competition between professional dog groomers, with the winner earning the title of "Groomer of the Year" in addition to cash and prizes.

Deadliest Catch

Groomer Has It brings together twelve of the top dog groomers in the United States. The groomers all live in the same house, which has been dubbed "The Dog House." Each week, through a series of tests and challenges, the groomers are graded by the panel of three judges. The participants are eliminated one by one until the final groomer standing is crowned the winner.

The winning dog groomer receives:

• $50,000 in cash
• A new Subaru Forester vehicle
• A customized mobile grooming salon
• The title of "Groomer of the Year"

There are two different challenges in each episode of Groomer Has It. Contestants are evaluated by the judges, with the winners earning prizes and an advantage in the upcoming Elimination Challenge. This advantage is called a "Leg Up."

The first of the two competitions on the show is called the Quick Sniff Challenge. All of the groomers compete, sometimes individually, and other times in teams. Past competitions have included tasks such as:

• Identifying safety hazards and dangerous practices in a grooming salon.
• Using aromatherapy and massage to relax a hyper dog.
• Filming instructional videos for dog owners.
• Teaching children how to groom their dogs.

The Quick Sniff Challenge winners sometimes receive prizes, such as dinner or a few hours at the spa, in addition to the advantages they earn. These advantages include things like the option to swap team members for the next challenge, or extra time with experts who are brought in to demonstrate new tools or techniques.

The second of the two challenges is the Elimination Challenge. Just as its name suggests, the groomer who makes the worst impression on the judges after this competition is eliminated from the game, although past performances on other challenges is also considered.

Elimination challenges can also be completed individually or in teams, and include tasks such as:

• Grooming the bride and groom for a canine wedding.
• Giving elderly dogs a more youthful appearance.
• Catering to fussy clients with special requests, while the clients themselves secretly watch the groomers to make sure all of their requests are met.
• Grooming rescue dogs without the aid of soap and water.

Groomer Has It is hosted by Jai Rodriguez, who is best known as the guide to culture on the Bravo reality show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. His dog, a Yorkshire Terrier named Nemo, also appears on the program.

Rodriguez is also a talented actor and singer, appearing in Broadway shows such as Rent and Zanna, Don't. He has appeared on numerous television shows, acting in cameo roles as well as hosting positions, including:

• The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency
• Ultimate Style

Jai Rodriguez has also done several films including The Producers, and was one of the contestants on the star-studded celebrity dance competition, Celebrity Duets. He has appeared several times on the NBC reality show The Apprentice.

The panel of judges on Groomer Has It includes:

• Dr. Karen Halligan is a veterinarian and author. "Doc Halligan" is also the director of veterinary services for the Los Angeles SPCA.
• Xavier Santiago is an expert dog handler and groomer. He has numerous awards to his credit.
• Joey Villani is the president, director, and owner of the Nash Academy of Animal Arts. He is also an experienced grooming judge and teacher.
