From G's to Gents is an MTV reality show that aims to transform men who are entirely rough around the edges and transform them into gentlemen. The men who appear as contestants come from a variety of backgrounds including some who are self-absorbed, party animals, or just plain rude.

This show attempts to transform the lives of participants.

How From G's to Gents Works

From G's to Gents is an elimination-style reality show that focuses on giving these hardened, self-absorbed, or brutish men a second chance to clean up their act. The winner of the show gets a cash prize of $100,000. The format of the show is roughly similar to that of Charm School, which is basically the same idea using female contestants from other MTV reality shows like Rock of Love and Flavor of Love.

16 men, called "G's," arrive at a mansion where they learn to become sophisticated gentlemen. A variety of tasks and challenges occur where the G's have to learn how to carry themselves, dress well, and learn other assorted lessons. The men are weeded down week by week. Those moving on to the next episode are given blazers for The Gentleman's Club, while those eliminated must pack up and move out immediately.

The men learn of their weekly tasks and challenges through the delivery of a faux newspaper, called The Daily Gent.

The Host

From G's to Gents is hosted by Fonzworth Bentley. Bentley is perhaps best known for his role as Sean Diddy Combs' personal assistant in the Making the Band series, as he stood out for being impeccably dressed, well-spoken, and extremely charming in a world of highly pressured stars.

Bentley is also a musician in his own right. He has recorded with and appeared in music videos for a variety of musicians and bands, including:

Bentley has written a self-help book, called Advance Your Swagger, in which he encourages and teaches basic etiquette and good manners. He has also appeared on the E! Channel television special, Confessions of a Celebrity Assistant.

Challenges and Tasks

On the show, the contestants are challenged to subdue their bad-boy sides and control themselves. The atmosphere changes from tension to humor and back again as the boys figure out the difference between acting out and gaining control. Some of these tasks include:

Putting together a fashion show to display polished and put-together looks, using only clothing found at a thrift store.
After a lesson in proper diction, the men have to create original rap songs with proper grammar and no curse words.
Learning chivalry, and then going on a date while wearing an earpiece to listen to instructions from teammates.
Raising awareness about charities and worthy causes by writing a play to be presented to inner city kids.
Arranging and executing a publicity photo shoot for a hip-hop star, to teach the importance of career goals and a work ethic.
Being sent out into the wilderness for a night of camping and fending for themselves.
Hosting a party to learn the value of networking and socializing without having to get completely drunk.

These tasks are completed either in teams, or individually, with the winners being exempt from elimination.

Eliminations

Eliminations begin with the Blackball Ceremony, in which all of the G's vote for the man they would like to see eliminated. The top three vote getters are then in jeopardy of elimination, and Bentley ultimately decides who stays and who goes based on past and recent performance in the tasks. Often, more than one person is sent packing.

Reunion Shows

As MTV likes to do with all of their reality shows, From G's to Gents has several reunion shows. The entire cast reunites and viewers can catch up on their successes or failures since being on the show.
