Double Shot at Love

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

Double Shot at Love is a spin off from the original A Shot at Love reality TV show that aired on MTV. In the original version, Tila Tequila - a self-proclaimed bisexual - was at the center of a dating show in which she got to choose from both male and female pursuers. This version of the show features the Ikki twins in the same situation.

Double Shot at Love Overview

Double Shot at Love is very similar in format to other dating shows, like The Bachelorette. Single people looking for love arrive and spend the next several weeks competing for alone time and attention from the main bachelor or bachelorette.

What makes the Shot at Love series different is because within the 24 single folks in the dating pool, half are men and the other half are women. The Ikki Twins are both bisexual, and have private dates with members of both sexes.

The individual dates aren't exactly one on one, however. Both twins go on these dates together, and it often becomes a battle between them for the attention of the other person. Often both twins will end up making out with the person they're on a date with, either together or one at a time.

The show premiered on MTV on December 9, 2008. Each episode is an hour in length.

The Ikki Twins

The two girls at the center of Double Shot are Rikki and Vikki Mongeon, who call themselves "Ikki" because of their rhyming names. The twins are both Hooters girls and models and have been featured on the official Hooters calendars. They were soon modeling for Playboy, both in the print magazine and their online counterpart.

Of course Rikki and Vikki are both bisexual, and were chosen to be on the reality dating show after auditioning for the parts.

The Singles

The single contestants who all arrived to get their shot at love with the Ikki twins are:

  • Ben Solenberger - 21, from Los Angeles, California

  • Trevor Lord – 24, from Narberth, Pennsylvania
  • Claudia Joseph – 24, from Brentwood, New York

The final three contestants left standing were Scott, Trevor, and Rebekah. Scott was eliminated, leaving viewers wondering how the show would turn out. Theoretically, both twins could choose the same person, or both contestants could choose the same twin.

Death of Kandice Hutchinson

Kandice Hutchinson, a 22 year old contestant from Texas, was eliminated in the second episode of the show. Shortly after she returned home, she was involved in a fatal car accident in Euless, Texas. Her car was rear-ended in the early morning hours of October 21, 2008. She was ejected through the windshield of the car and thrown over a median, landing in the path of oncoming traffic.

There are widely different reports of what caused the accident, ranging from speed racing to Kandi being intoxicated at the time of the crash.

When the second episode of the show aired, it was dedicated to Kandi's memory. The Ikki twins told viewers about the accident, and expressed their gratitude at having had the opportunity to know her.
