DietTribe
From LoveToKnow Reality-TV
DietTribe takes the concept of the buddy system and applies it to five women who are close friends committed to losing weight before one of the woman's wedding. The show is considered more "reality" than some other reality shows.
About DietTribe
Over three months, five friends drastically alter exercise and eating habits in order to lose around 30 pounds each (or more if they desire). They have access to a personal trainer and a psychotherapist who is there to help the women overcome the issues that brought the weight on initially. One difference with this weight loss reality shows is that the women on DietTribe live on a ranch together and can only eat what they are provided. That means no food temptations or chances to be lazy: eating healthy and exercising approximately six hours a day is their only option.
The Women of DietTribe
- Anna is 30 years old and getting married at the start of the show. Because she is non-selfish, she always thinks of her friends first and hasn't had a chance to work on herself. She admits that her husband doesn't understand why she wants to lose weight and often offers Anna her favorite food when she is depressed.
- Lydia, 26, is known as the clown. She realizes that she uses humor to take away from how she looks. Lydia wants this experience to also jump-start her dating life. One of her secret goals is to fit into some skinny designer jeans.
- Twenty-nine year-old Megan loves french fries. She is a bridesmaid in Anna's wedding and is willing to lose the weight, but because of her asthma condition doesn't think that she can do many of the exercises that will help her.
- Shawna used to be a personal trainer. The other four friends feel that she is a great motivator, but not for herself. Shawna has a great weakness for eating out, fast food and the occasional drink.
- Morgan, 31, started her first diet at age 12 and had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago, but all the weight she lost returned. She weighs the most at 292 pounds and thinks the issue is because her mother doesn't see what's inside and instead sees the weight.
The Trainer and the Psychotherapist
- Jessie is a trainer who currently lives in L.A. Even though he loves some of the "bad food" - like Oreos or the occasional Big Mac - he thinks the best thing you can do when starting a new diet and training regime is to be open to new ideas. If diets have failed in the past, then you obviously don't want to do the same one. Instead you should learn from that diet and incorporate those failures into successes.
- Stacey Kaiser is a psychotherapist who also helped celebrities on Celebrity Fit Club. The toughest job of being on DietTribe was keeping the group motivated when they felt they can't do it. Some of the girls kept up some tough walls to break through, but when they did it was a rewarding experience.
Results
Each of the woman's goal weight loss was 30 pounds, which everyone thought was reasonable in the 90 day period.
- Anna's starting weight was 228 pounds. She actually lost 35 pounds.
- Lydia started at 210 pounds and lost 31 pounds.
- Megan began the show at 218 pounds and lost the goal weight.
- Shawna's starting weight was 232 pounds and she lost 36 pounds.
- Morgan began at 292 pounds and she lost the most of all five women with 37 pounds.
