CBS Survivor Application
From LoveToKnow Reality-TV
If you're a fan of the show and want to be the next castaway, you're going to need a CBS Survivor application. Find out more about the process right here.
About Survivor
After multiple seasons, CBS Survivor is still a huge hit for the network and incredibly entertaining viewing for fans.
On the outside chance you've never watched an episode, each year the show's producers pick a large cast of people to divide into two tribes that will be dropped off at a remote location with the goal of surviving there for approximately seven weeks. During that time, the castaways will endure many hardships, compete in competitions to win rewards and immunity and ultimately vote off fellow cast mates one-by-one until just one person emerges as the sole survivor. The winner receives a $1,000,00 prize. The runner up receives $100,000, and various cast mates may receive consolation prizes at the producers' discretion.
The lure of adventure and prize money is very appealing to many viewers and gives rise to questions about how to get on the show. To do this, it's necessary to begin by filling out the CBS Survivor application.
The CBS Survivor Application Process
Finding the Application
The first thing you need to know about applying to be on Survivor is that the application is not always available. CBS posts a casting call on the official website for the next edition after the finale of the previous season airs. Applications are typically due by the following July. The producers then go to work wading through the submissions looking for potential cast members who meet all of the show's requirements and stand out as interesting people the viewers might feel compelled to watch.
When available, you'll find a link to the CBS Survivor application on the official show website.
The Process
The Survivor application is a fairly long document that gives a lot of information about the process in addition to the application itself. Here are the highlights of what you can expect.
- The producers will narrow the field of applicants to approximately 800 people.
- Interview invitations will be issued and held each August, and applicants are responsible for their own travel fees to one of the major cities where producers will meet with them.
- A field of approximately 48 applicants will be selected and invited to Los Angeles for a final interview. This time the show will pick up the expenses for each potential cast member's economy air fair and lodging.
- From this group, the producers will select 16-20 participants for the show.
- Filming at the remote location generally takes place from October through December.
Contestant Requirements
Here are the basic requirements to be considered for the show.
- You can have no connection whatsoever to anyone affiliated with the show. The application offers very specific info about this rule, so read it carefully.
- You must be at least 21 years old at the time you submit your application.
- You must be in excellent mental and physical condition.
- You must be a US citizen and living in the country at the time of submission.
- Selected semi-finalists must have a valid US passport.
- Semi-finalists will be required to submit to physical and psychological testing conducted by physicians of the producers' choosing.
- Semi-finalists must be willing to submit to a thorough background check.
- Semi-finalists must return medical history forms, provided by the show's producers, in a timely manner.
- Selected contestants cannot run for public office until the initial broadcast of the season on which they appeared has completed airing.
- The average cast mate only receives free airfare and accommodation related to filming the show. There is typically no monetary compensation for participation unless you're a winner.
Those are the requirements. Producers are also looking for people who are out-going, strong-willed and physically/mentally on the ball. Shrinking violets need not apply.
Video Submissions
In addition to filling out the application, applicants are asked to submit a video that is absolutely no longer than three minutes in length. In the video, applicants should introduce themselves and tell producers why they believe they would be the "ultimate" survivor. Creativity is encouraged and is essential if you want to stand out as memorable from thousands of other applicants.
Sample Application

Keep in mind that the exact requirements to participate may change in proceeding seasons, so it will always be necessary to use each edition's tailored application if you want to be considered. Make sure you provide all of the information required in the proper format so you have the best chance of moving on to the next round for consideration. Good luck!

John, it sounds like you would be a great candidate for this popular reality show. Visit the CBS website to submit an application.
-- Contributed by: Tamsen ButlerI think you've selected senior citizens like Bob who, whileentally capable, come across as skinny little old geezers. I can give you a chance to change all that. I can guarantee you've never considered anyone over 60 as "in shape" as me (I'm 62). Also, I'm a retired Air Force officer and currently work as a probation officer. My friends all tell me I'd be a natural for Survivor. thanks - John Cink
