Brooke Hogan Knows Best

From LoveToKnow Reality-TV

Brooke Hogan Knows Best, also known as the shortened Brooke Knows Best, picks up where Hogan Know Best left off. That popular VH1 reality show had to cease filming after a series of family problems, so Brooke struck out on her own and took over the reins for the entire Hogan clan.

From Hulk to Brooke

On Hogan Knows Best, the action was centered around Hulk Hogan (real name, Terry Bollea) and how he coped with his family including his role in Brooke’s music career and her dating life, his son’s interest in racing and in becoming a professional wrestler, and his relationship with his wife Linda. The show’s format was akin to a sitcom with each 30 minute episode covering some event in the family’s life that was usually resolved by the time the episode was over.

The show was an instant hit when it debuted in 2005 but in 2007, amidst filming for a new season, Hogan Knows Best had to go into hiatus due to a series of family problems. Hulk’s son Nick was involved in a serious car crash while drinking. The crash left his passenger, US Marine John Graziano, with severe brain damage and on life support. Nick was sentenced to eight months in jail for his involvement in the crash though eventually he only served 166 days of his sentence.

The other major family drama occurred when Linda filed for divorce from Hulk. The divorce became acrimonious almost immediately, and much of the drama played out in front of the media spotlight. Shortly after filing for divorce, Linda began a very public relationship with a 19 year old who was a former high school classmate of her children and it emerged that Hulk had cheated on Linda with a friend of Brooke’s.

With all of the family upheaval, it was obvious that Hogan Knows Best could not continue in its original format, and so Brooke stepped in to take the starring role for her own show.

Brooke Hogan Knows Best

Brooke was always one of the main storylines in the Hogan Knows Best series. Her father only agreed to do the show in the first place in hopes of using it as a vehicle for Brooke’s music career, and so her attempts to get her pop career of the ground propelled many episodes. The transition to centering the show on Brooke was a natural one for the fans.

The first series of Brooke Hogan Knows Best premiered on July 13, 2008. The premise of the show is to follow Brooke as she works on her music career and as she strikes out on her own for the first time, away from her overprotective father. In the first series, she moves out of her parents’ home and into a condo in Miami’s South Beach area (which is paid for by VH1). Her family problems are also played out on the show to a certain extent, and viewers get to see the tension with her and her mom and her coping with her brother’s legal troubles. Of course, her father also plays a constant role, calling her to check in and generally trying to keep tabs on her behavior.

Another theme of the show is Brooke considering whether or not she is going to make it in the music industry. She considers leaving the business and going to college.

A new season of Brooke Knows Best is in the works for VH1.
