The Flipping Out Team

The cast of Bravo's Flipping Out includes Lewis and his team, which consists of staff both on the job and at home. They include:

Jeff Lewis

Lewis has worked in the Los Angeles area as a real estate speculator for ten years. He is described as obsessive-compulsive and tends to "flip out" on the rest of his team when things get stressful or something goes wrong.

Ryan Brown

Brown is Lewis' business partner. He is usually the calm one who tries to talk his excitable partner down. Making things more complicated, however, is the fact that Ryan and Jeff were once life-partners.

Jenni Pulos

Pulos' official title is executive assistant to Jeff Lewis. Pulos has worked in the entertainment industry and has a second job doing voice over work. She is also a consultant for the show's production team.

Chris Elwood

Elwood has been promoted from trash collector to house manager, demoted, and even fired on the show. He's also an actor, with roles in television and Hollywood movies, including Revenge of the Mummy.

Zoila Chavez

Chavez is Lewis' housekeeper, and is the one who truly listens to him and offers him solid advice. She seems to be the only person who can calm him down, and goes out of her way to make sure he's content.

Chris Keslar

Keslar is a budding house flipper, who has been hired as an assistant to Jeff Lewis.

Bravo's Flipping Out Format

Like many Bravo reality shows, there are different layers to Flipping Out. The show focuses equally on the business of house flipping and the quirks of its star, Jeff Lewis. He tends to stress out easily, and it often takes quite a lot of work to get him to refocus. He is aware of his tendencies, and has tried numerous methods to keep himself on a more even keel, including:

  • Spiritual healers
  • Psychics
  • Various forms of therapy
  • Relaxation techniques

Many of these methods are used on an ongoing basis. Lewis has a habit of firing and replacing his advisors when their techniques fail to work.

In each season, work on the houses to be flipped is detailed as well as the ongoing renovations of Jeff's personal home. The processes of buying, renovating, and finally selling the homes are all covered during the course of the season. The pressures of deadlines and budget constraints contribute to what is often a tense atmosphere, but there are also many celebrations and feel-good moments when things are going well.

Featured Homes

There have been several homes shown on the reality show, and the amount of work put into them to make a complete transformation can be astounding. Here are a few examples:

Nottingham

The house at Nottingham was purchased for $2,260,000 in the first season of the show, and was the biggest house that Lewis and his team had ever worked on. When the house was finished, Ryan Brown moved in and sold his own house to free up some money for the business. The house eventually sold for $4,350,000.

Valley Oak

Two homes have been flipped by Lewis and his team on Valley Oak Drive, and they are referred to as Valley Oak One and Valley Oak Two. The first home was shown during season one as Lewis' own residence, while the second caused all kinds of problems in season two. The main point of concern was the fact that the previous owner refused to move out.

The Dorothy Chandler Mansion

This house is located on Lorraine Boulevard in Hancock Park, and was once owned by philanthropist Dorothy Chandler. It was named a historic property, so renovations were done painstakingly and at great expense. Jeff Lewis and Ryan Brown worked as consultants on this home.
